Mia Hamm to Speak at University of Delaware
Tuesday March 23, 2010

Soccer star Mia Hamm will speak at the University of Delaware next month.

A member of U.S. soccer teams that won two Olympic gold medals and the FIFA World Cup, Hamm will share her life story in a lecture entitled “Achieving Personal Excellence.” The speech is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. March 23 at the Bob Carpenter Center. A question and answer session will follow the speech.

Tickets go on sale Tuesday at UD box offices and through Ticketmaster. Student tickets are $5, faculty and staff tickets are $7 and tickets for the public are $10. All seating is general admission.

Hamm has been inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame and is one of two women on the FIFA’s ranking of the 125 greatest soccer players of all time. She founded the Mia Hamm Foundation, which raises funds and awareness for bone marrow disease research, after her brother died from complications related to aplastic anemia.

Hamm is coming to campus as part of the UD Speaks series. Colin Powell gave a speech on campus last fall as part of the series.
