Scholarships
Players in Need

Families and players who may not have the financial means for some, or all of the registration dues, are encouraged to apply for a scholarship for the soccer playing season (period of one year).

Objective: North Hunterdon Soccer Club (NHSC) strives to keep soccer affordable and works very hard as a group to reduce the economic barriers of playing soccer. As such, as long as funds are available, NHSC will make scholarships available to players in order to keep them on the field and in the game.

Program Name: The official name of this program is North Hunterdon Soccer Club Scholarship Program.

Scholarship Fund Overview: Scholarship amounts awarded will be based on the needs of the family and will be awarded as a portion of yearly club fees.  Please complete one application for each child for whom you are requesting scholarship assistance and file them together.

Review and Administration: This scholarship program will be under the direct supervision of the NHSC Scholarship Committee. The determination of family need and scholarship amount will be made by that committee which consists of: Club President (currently Jens Duerr), Club Treasurer (currently Tom Hoban) and one Board Member (currently Will Rush).  Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee and responded to within 15 business days of the date of the application, ideally sooner.

Criteria and Eligibility: Any family is eligible to apply for a scholarship if an economic barrier could prevent the player from enjoying and playing soccer.  Financial need will be the only determinant in receiving a scholarship.  Although we strongly encourage all scholarship recipients to consider volunteering with the club, this is not a requirement to receive a scholarship.  In order to assess financial need, the following will be taken into consideration in awarding the scholarship:

• Applicant must complete the required NHSC Scholarship Application Form and return the completed application to Club President, Jens Duerr

• Scholarship applications are accepted throughout the year, but applications completed by August of each year (fall season) and December (spring season) are encouraged and appreciated.

Financial need will be the only factor in awarding a soccer scholarship. Out of respect for privacy, NHSC will not request copies of W-2s, paychecks, tax returns etc. In lieu, as part of the scholarship application, the family will be asked to make a statement outlining the circumstances and specific need.

• Scholarship recipients will be asked to pay for some portion of the club fees.   NHSC wishes to have the family pay whatever amount they feel they can pay. If circumstances prevent a family from making any payment, a scholarship will still be considered.  Uniform, tournament, extra training, equipment, and other fees above and beyond regular club dues will not be considered for a scholarship.

Non-Discrimination Clause: No one will be disqualified from consideration because of sex, race, color, creed or religious beliefs.

North Hunterdon Soccer Club Statement: All applications will be taken into consideration based on availability of money for scholarships; number of applications received for current season; financial needs of applicant; number of children in the family playing NHSC soccer. This application does not guarantee a scholarship; applicants will be notified of status in a timely manner. NHSC is an equal opportunity club. It forbids discrimination on the basis of the race, religion, sex, nationality, age and health needs. NHSC will keep all information provided CONFIDENTIAL.  Applications and details regarding the scholarship will not be divulged outside of the 3-person Scholarship Committee.
